What is it?

About

In 1960, the first aviation museum in Calgary, “The Air Museum of Canada” was founded, which was largely collection of privately owned aircraft.  The museum’s aircraft and assets were turned over to the City of Calgary and housed at the Planetarium when the museum was disbanded in 1971.  The present day museum was founded in 1975 and showcases the history of aviation and space technology of Western Canada.

The museum displays over 24 aircrafts  like Sopwith Triplane, Auster, Avro Anson, Beech 18, Harvard, North American F-86 Sabre Jet, Bell 47, Dehavilland Vampire, Waco, Avro Lancaster, Douglas DC-3, Barkley Grow, Dehavilland Twin Otter, Cessna Ag Wagon, Sikorsky S-51, Sikorsky S-55, CF-101 Voodoo, and the CF-100 Canuckas.There is a Lancaster and many scaled models are also on display.

They also hold Aviation Expo which showcases  the history of flight side-by-side with the latest advances in aviation maintenance engineering, aircraft manufacturing and avionics technology and other events periodically. ASMAC Movie Nights held by the museum screens films which covers WW1 up to the latest and greatest in aerospace technology which is available today.

One can also hold private events and museum also conducts tours.   There is a kid’s area with colouring and reading materials.

Who all can go and enjoy  ?  – Everybody. A must visit for an aviation buff.

Location & Direction

The museum is located close to the airport at 4629 McCall Way NE. You can reach by Calgary transit route 57(Erin Woods/McCall Way). Stops 7530, 7354,6298,4799 are within 300 meters of the museum.

Adults – $10.00, Senior – $7.00 – 60 plus year of age

Student – $7.00 (12 to 17 years or with valid student ID card)

Family – $25.00 ; includes 2 adults and 4 children (17 year and under).

Children – $5.00 (6 -11 years); Children – FREE – 5 years old and under.
