If you donot mind driving four hours (round trip), then a day trip to Lacombe is a good way to spend a day with the Kids. The best time for the trip may be Lacombe days, which is held in Summer. Gull Lake is a popular winter attraction with Ice fishing and other winter activities.
There are many attractions in Lacombe which makes the trip worthwhile.
Few suggestions for a memorable day trip:
1. You can spend a whole day at Gull Lake enjoying various water sports and kids will surely enjoy a day at the beach.
2.Another option is to spend half a day at Lacombe corn Maze, the ‘original Alberta Corn Maze’ and half a day at Gull Lake and then return to Calgary.
3.If you want to make it a nature day, then visit the J.J. Collett Natural Area, then a trip to the Ellis Bird Farm to see the blue birds and other cavity nesting birds. On the way back drop in at Billyco junction garden and pick up fresh fruits and vegetables.
4. Take a walk back in time along the streets of historic downtown Lacombe (see here) and do not forget to visit the The Flat Iron Building and Lacombe Interpretive Centre, Michener House Museum and Blacksmith Shop Museum.
