A black man is accused of raping a white woman in a fictional Alabama small town in the 1930s. A white lawyer defends him, defying the pervasive racism of his neighbors. Art Battle is live competitive painting. Painters create the best work they can in 20 minutes. As they work, patrons move around the easels, closely watching the creative process. The medium is acrylic paint and the tools allowed are brushes, palette knives or any non-mechanical implements. At the end of the round, the audience votes democratically for their favourite painting and bids in silent auction to take the work home. Details

7. Coldest Night of the Year
Western Ottawa Community Resource Centre is hosting a fundraising walk, the Coldest Night of the Year, for Chrysalis House. It’s a Canada-wide walking fundraiser that raises money for and awareness about the hungry, homeless and hurting. We are encouraging participants to walk 2, 5 or 10 km to raise money for Chrysalis House. Our WALK will raise money to help the women’s shelter serve about 150 women and children this year.
