Events Description

When you visit the event, you would find yourself surrounded by the best of winter. The International Ice Carving Competition is one of only three ice carving competitions in Canada.

We are thrilled to welcome back 7 teams of internationally acclaimed ice carving artists for the return of Edmonton’s International Ice Carving Competition, now called Chiseled. Each team has 34 hours and 15 blocks of ice to complete their sculpture. You can watch these teams create January 18 – 20, 2024, downtown in the ICE District Plaza.

The artists start by stacking the 300lb ice blocks and masterfully shape them into magnificent carvings using chainsaws and chisels. Each carving is made exclusively of water, ice, and snow, and judged on artistry and technique.

The Chiseled 2024 competition features the following teams:

A Stiff Cleve – Clifford Vacheresse and Steve Buzak from Edmonton creating Float
Carvin’ Buddies – Scott Harrison from Calgary and Ross Baisas from the Philippines/Montreal creating Dragon Queen
Chainsaw Massacre – Yann Blanchard from France/Calgary and Brad Froehlich creating Don’t Like To Be Tied Down
Elegant Ice Dreams – Mowafak Nema from Iraq/Ottawa and Don Lowing from the United States/Philadelphia creating Eagles.
Lazy Ninjas – Kee Gawah from Malaysia/Sweden and Larry MacFarlane from Winnipeg creating The Dance
License to Chill – Victor Dagatan from the Philippines/USA and Andrew Zoller from Calgary creating The Huntress
The Frosty Collies – Kamron Garbe from Regina and Jynae Bergeron from Kelowna creating Hammer Time
