About Sikome Lake, Calgary

Sikome Aquatic Facility or Sikome Lake Calgary is a man-made lake located within the Fish Creek Provincial Park, and is part of the Bow River basin. It also functions as a swimming area, open during the summer as a public beach. The Lake was established in 1978.

The beach is staffed by Alberta Provincial Parks aquatic staff. During the winter the water is drained, and it takes about three weeks to refill the lake every spring.

During the season, the entire body of water is refreshed once every 8 days through an on-location water treatment plant. The lake measures 0.44 sq km in area and is ~ 7 ft deep.

“Sikome Lake is a gem. The sand is great. The water is deep enough in the middle for a comfortable swim, but the slope is gradual enough to be safe for the youngest children. Bring floation devices, beverages in plastic bottles and beach chairs, but be prepared for a long walk from your car on hot summer weekends.” – Geoff

“the best lake here in calgary” – Hilda
