A few of the Mother’s Day Sunday brunch events in Edmonton will be, more specifically, drag brunch events. These brunches include the meals, often a buffet, along with live drag performances that include music, comedy, dancing, and more.
- El Cortez will have a Mommy Milkers Mothers Day Brunch on May 14th featuring an a la carte menu, and a mimosa for mom.

Explore Edmonton’s Nearby Nature Preserves
There are two main types of nature preserves around the Edmonton area: the privately run areas, and the Provincial or National Park areas (notably, Elk Island). These areas have trail systems, interpretive signage, and an abundance of wildlife. Mother’s Day weekend could offer great spring weather for a day of picnics, hiking, exploring nature, and photography.
- The Clifford E. Lee Nature Sanctuary is free to visit, and has about 4-5km of trails to explore, depending on the routes you choose. Part of the trail is a wooden boardwalk which follow the wetlands, while the maintained natural pathways lead into the forests and meadows.
- The Cooking Lake-Blackfoot Provincial Area trail system can give you and mom, or you and your family, a wide selection of trail lengths for a Sunday hike. This is a convenient option for those in southeast Edmonton, Sherwood Park, or Beaumont.
- The John E. Poole Wetlands are part of the Lois Hole Centennial PP in northwest Edmonton and St. Albert. The area has boardwalk trails, a large bird population, and picnic sites.
Go Wine Tasting
The Barr Estate Winery near Sherwood Park have openings left for Mother’s Day winery tours. These tours include education on the fruit wine-making process, tastings, and a visit with some farm animals. The scenery is also perfect for some family photos. Along with wines, the estate is also a working sheep farm.

Free Outdoor Fun
Take advantage of the warmer spring weather if you can this Mother’s Day weekend. Doing something outside or recreational can often mean doing something for free on the weekend. Edmonton’s river valley and ravines give us some extra space to enjoy these activities, too.
- Plan a picnic for your Mother’s Day celebrations in one of Edmonton’s blooming city parks. Grab some snacks and a blanket from home, or stop by one of the weekend farmers’ markets. Any one of Edmonton’s river valley parks will have tables, cook stoves, and washrooms- except for Hawrelak!
- Edmonton has a huge network of paved bike trails which are all now clear of snow and ice. A river valley or ravine bike ride can easily be combined with a Mother’s Day picnic.
- Reggae Up North is an outdoor event in Old Strathcona taking place on May 13th. The event features outdoor concerts, a local DJ spinning tracks throughout the day, and access to Caribbean snacks or drinks (there will be ticketed events, too).
Kid-Friendly Mother’s Day Activities
There are attractions around Edmonton that offer fun for all ages on Mother’s Day, with a special focus on younger kids. Some of these spots also grant the chance for a short Sunday drive outside the city.
- The Prairie Gardens Adventure Farm in Bon Accord will host a variety of Mother’s Day workshops for all ages, and some just for kids.
- The Jurassic Forest northeast of Edmonton in Gibbons, adds adventure to any kids’ day, and is a great way for mom to enjoy a peaceful walk through the trees. The trails contain large animatronic dinosaurs around every corner, and interpretive signage.
- West Edmonton Mall recently updated its Galaxyland attraction with the help of Hasbro. There are new rides and features, and more nearby attractions around the mall.

A high tea date is so much more about tea!
