Forget Polar Bear Dips on New Year’s Day, and try swimming in the waters of Lake Ontario, even at below-freezing temperatures!
You can, of course, go to any Lake Ontario beach and test your mettle any time during winter. However, it’s safer to have companions during cold weather swims.
In Toronto, there are two groups that embrace winter swimming in the lake, providing an opportunity for both adventure and security.
Members of the Winter Swim Club of Toronto swim every Sunday, all year round, at noon, from the shore of Humber Bay Park West, Toronto.
The group, SwimOP, swims at Ontario Place at Tech Beach. They swim on weekends, around 2 p.m. Contact the group via Facebook.
If the thought of a refreshing, albeit brisk, swim appeals to you, then, dive right in. However, if you are of the opinion that Lake Ontario is too cold in summer, then this is definitely not for you!
