Events Description
The musicians and artists featured in the festival are either local to New Brunswick, or have a connection with St. Stephen’s University–a partner to the festival.
This festival had its first iteration under the same name in the summer of 2017, and due to the success and positive reception of that event, Bonfire has been structured this year to be an annual festival for St. Stephen going forward.
Bonfire’s headlining acts this year include Canadian folk singer-songwriter and CBC featured artist, Joshua Hyslop; Okanagan Arts Award-winner and neo-folk musician, Andrew Smith; and New Brunswick Folk Artist of the Year, Shaun Ferguson. Other acts range in genre from Montreal’s experimental indie art collective–ce qui nous traverse–to fun-time oldies classic rock group–Jock & The Docs.
The workshops are led by artists from wider disciplines and practices including Nova Scotian photographer, Deedee Morris, and local electronic musician, Rick Coates, feature readings from multiple poets, including St. Stephen’s Katie Gorrie, as well as a performance from Vancouver-based contemporary dance artist, Avery Smith.
