Venezuelan Culture Days

The Venezuelan-Canadian Association of Calgary (VCAC) and Cantares Venezuelan Cultural Foundation will be hosting “Venezuelan Culture Days”. During these days you will see multiple expressions of Venezuelan culture and folklore, including film, music, dance and food.

“Venezuelan Culture Days” is an annual event, aimed at promoting multiculturalism and ensuring the preservation of traditions through generations of Venezuelans-Canadians.

The Joropo or Música llanera is a musical style that has African, Native South American and European influences and originated in the plains called “Los Llanos” of what is now Venezuela.

Movie Night – Double feature: “Papita, Maní, Tostón 2” and “Luisa”

Theatre Night (Expresarte – Teatro en español)
ExpresArte and Gato Negro present a comedy about social behaviour in Venezuela a hundred years ago.
“Salto-Atrás” – “Sainete” (a satirical play full of hilarious situations) by Leoncio Martínez and adapted by Vicky Velasco. It tells a story in the context of the postcolonial times in Venezuela and speaks about a family that believed to be close to royalty.

The Taste of Venezuela – A festival of flavours: Food, Music, Folk dances and Crafts
In this festival of flavours, all the family will have a unique opportunity to taste some of the typical food from Venezuela: arepas, cachapas, cachitos, pastelitos, tres leches, polvorosas, quesillo, and much more.
Folk Dance and Music will be also in the program, to showcase the vibrant musicality of Venezuelan people. Venezuelan artists will exhibit their fabulous arts & crafts.
