In partnership with Southcentre Mall, the Aboriginal Awareness Week Artisan Market will invite Calgarians to share in celebrating Indigenous culture while supporting local businesses. The event will take place Friday, June 25 and Saturday, June 26 from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. and will showcase 10 unique vendors. The market will begin with an opening ceremony at 11 a.m. on June 25, which will include an opening prayer from elder Dian EagleSpeaker and a traditional dance performance.
Guests will also have access to a dedicated resource centre where they will be able to ask questions, discover more about Indigenous culture and engage with members of Calgary’s Aboriginal community. Attendees will also have the opportunity to receive an orange ribbon from the resource centre on a by-donation basis to honour and remember the experience of residential school children in Canada. Donations will be sent to the Colouring It Forward Reconciliation Society to support their mission of advancing education on indigenous issues, art, language and culture.
