The Festival Chorus welcomes you to attend the first concert in our 61st season. Christmas in Rome will be the sixth instalment in our travelogue-themed concerts – the past has brought us to Venice, London, Paris, Seville, Leipzig to name a few.
This holiday concert will feature music composed for and in the ‘eternal city’. The featured work is Ottorino Respighi’s melodic and appealing Laud to the Nativity of the Lord.
We will also feature audience carols, which is always a patron favourite. Italian folk carols from the country-side will include: Canzone dei zampognari (Carol of the bagpipers); Dormi, dormi, O Bel Bambin (Sleep, sleep, o lovely child!); Ou scendi dalle Stelle (From Starry Skies Descending).
No Italy-themed concert could be complete without a bit of operatic style so our vocal soloists will join the Chorus in the well-known O Holy Night – not originally Italian (French!) but one of the most famous Classical vocal selections.
Come celebrate the season with us, Italian style!
