Events Description

Enjoy a one-of-a-kind dinner in the heart of the Alberta Badlands inspired by the Mesozoic world.

Happening on Saturday, June 8, 2019, the 2nd annual science-meets-culinary event will offer an immersive prehistoric and pre-dinner experience hosted by dinosaur experts before guests experience a 4-course dinner by some of Calgary’s talented chefs on the rooftop of the Royal Tyrrell Museum.

Preceding the dinner, there will be a VIP tour of the museum hosted by Tyrrell’s gallery experience officers beginning at 4 p.m.

Following the museum and a bonus private fossil tour for ten lucky attendees (names drawn at random upon arrival), guests will be guided through a private staff area up to the museum’s rooftop for canapes, welcome cocktails by Burwood Distillery and an interactive fossil exhibition before sitting down for dinner at 6 p.m.

The 4-course dinner menu inspired by interesting types of dinosaurs from different periods of the Mesozoic Era with a jaw-dropping, carnivorous Alberta Pork main course (bring that T-Rex appetite!) with all dishes being paired up with prehistoric-inspired cocktails by Madeleine MacDonald (SAIT, Lulu Bar) and Wyatt Sutherland (Two Penny) using Burwood Distillery spirits.

The dinosaur-inspired dishes have been conceived and will be created by Calgary chefs: Mharlon Atienza (Two Penny), Eraj Jayawickreme (Fairmont Palliser) and Garrett Martin (chef-at-large, formerly Bridgette Bar).

Once the event wraps and the sun sets on the beautiful 360 degree Badlands backdrop, coach buses will take all Alberta ERA guests who opted for transport back to the Fairmont Palliser with an estimated arrival of 10:30 p.m.

The ERA dinner is a disappointment and over priced for what you’re getting. The appetizer was two cherry tomatoes in broth. This was followed by two sticks of gum length of char with a bit of salad. The main course was one small piece of pork that was souvee and finished on the grill with half a stalk of asparagus. The main course they cheap out on and serve family style to the table. The dessert was yogurt with rhubarb at the bottom. The cocktails with each course were inconsistent and overly sugary and sweet. They are not setup for big fancy dinners – it’s a museum with probably a small limited kitchen to work with and it shows with the meal. I left there, disappointed and hungry. It was not worth the money and feel bad for my friends for wasting 300 bucks as they paid for my ticket since they were trying to make it up to me for missing my birthday earlier in the year. Avoid this and save your money.
