Selina Martineau is a Filipino-Canadian artist that creates paintings, installations, garments and performances that draw on popular culture and the history of marginalized communities to form a contemporary perspective of intersectional identity. Contrasting real and imaginary, humour and seriousness, Martineau’s work examines relationships with familiar imagery and how identity is informed by society’s assumptions about race and gender.
Haley Eyre (@haleyeyre_art)
Born and raised in Calgary, I am an emerging artist currently studying photography at the Alberta University of the Arts (formerly ACAD). Photography has always allowed me to confront and deal with my personal issues and has been a form of therapy. In recent years, through my interaction with a broader world – one connected through the internet – my interests and artistic practice have opened up to include feminism and gender politics. Photography is my way of exploring these themes and stating my opinions. I enjoy using vibrant aesthetics and comedy as a method of expressing myself in my work. My practice involves story-telling, set building, photography, and photoshop. My goal as an artist is to bring a little laughter into the world while also confronting social issues and my personal hardships.
