Marlaena Moore writes serious, heartbreaking songs, bringing you to the point of despair while still bopping with a smile on your face. Her songs could be called anthemic if not for their intuitive restraint. Her butter-melting voice and woozy guitar come to a charge only to stagger back, never letting her anguish be simplified into a jingle.
Heavydive
A three-piece rock band that mixes post-punk rhythms and shoegaze soundscapes with dreary, yet angelic, vocals reminiscent of Ian Curtis, Morrissey, and Robert Smith. Inspired by the turmoils of mental illness, escaping emotional abuse, and the fear of failure, their work soars and crashes with sonic intensity that brims with melancholy, uncertainty and hope.
Window Lamp
New group Window Lamp is an interdisciplinary collective project with an ethereal take on surf rock. Their guitar and percussion jangle along as an intentional echo for vocalist Haley Gunn’s reluctant spoken-then-sung vocals.
