Events Description

SOUND OFF is Canada’s national festival dedicated to the Deaf performing arts. The 5th annual edition of SOUND OFF is presented in collaboration with Fringe Theatre Adventures and Edmonton’s Chinook Series.

SOUND OFF brings Deaf artists from across the country to share their talents and stories and the beauty of American Sign Language on stage.

Our 5th annual festival brings together 6 mainstage performances from Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba, and Ontario. Also featuring our special guest from the UK, Chisato Minamimura, with her powerful work Scored in Silence.

This year’s performances include Deaf Spirit Theatre’s ComMUTE, Deaf Antler’s Improv, Two Natasha’s: Visiting Aunt Natasha, Follow the Signs Theatre’s Please Remain Behind The Shield and a special edition of the Mundane Mysteries series by Outside the March.

During the 5-day event, we will be offering a wide range of activities and events for audiences participate in. These include panel discussions with Deaf artists, Deaf-led workshops and staged readings by Deaf playwrights, along with our final wrap up event, Deaf Party!

Also featuring the return of our ever-popular improv with Edmonton’s Rapid Fire Theatre for the hilarious Maestro: SOUND OFF Edition, where hearing and Deaf improvisors go head-to-head for a battle of improv supremacy!
