Events Description
Always inspired by those who fought for freedom, Beethoven’s powerful and dramatic overture to Goethe’s Egmont sets the stage for this emotional concert. Principal Cello Rafael Hoekman and Assistant Principal Cello Julie Hereish step out to play Vivaldi’s dramatic and emotionally charged concerto, music that has long fascinated cellists and thrilled audiences. Shostakovich spoke of the “light and sunny” mood of his 9th Symphony, a joyous work in which various instruments also seem to interrupt each other, grieve, argue, and ultimately celebrate.
