Events Description
Please join Greenwood Singers this holiday season for their annual presentation of The Many Moods of Christmas proudly presented by Snyder & Associates LLP. This year, the choir will also be celebrating the legacy of Founder & Director Emeritus, Robert de Frece, on his retirement. Come celebrate Bob as we perform his favourite music and enjoy a post-concert reception.
Director, Adam Robertson, has assembled a program to celebrate Bob with some of his favourite settings from the past 15 years. The concert includes three settings of the text “Hodie Christus natus est” across musical periods by William Byrd, Jan Pieterszoon Sweelinck, and Shirley McRae; modern carols by John Rutter, Healey Willan and Randall Thompson; traditional carol arrangements by Mack Wilberg with organ, piano and handbell accompaniment; settings of popular Christmas songs with rhythm section; and a musical adaptation of the well-known poem “`Twas the Night Before Christmas” by Clement Clark Moore. The choir will be joined by the University of Alberta Faculty of Education Handbell Ringers, organist Tammy-Jo Mortensen, pianist Helen Stuart, bassist Jeff Johnson and percussionist Murray Smith.
Greenwood Singers is very grateful for its sponsors Snyder & Associates LLP and The Bereznicki Family, as well as ongoing support from the Alberta Foundation for the Arts, Edmonton Arts Council and the City of Edmonton.
