The Chinese Benevolent Association is pleased to present the Mid-Autumn Lantern Festival with the Edmonton Downtown Farmers Market! Edmontonians from all backgrounds are invited to welcome Autumn at the Edmonton Downtown Farmers Market with an Asian-style bazaar with colourful lanterns, folk music and performances, mooncakes, cultural games and activities, wandering costumed Chinese characters, and mouth-watering food truck menus. Take a tour of Chinatown to learn its past and present stories.
In the Mid-Autumn Festival tradition, there will be activities throughout the day and evening. To your enjoyment, there will be performances, lantern-making, lantern riddles, calligraphy, storytelling, moon gazing, moon cake tasting and a variety of vendors and food venues.
The Mid-Autumn Lantern Festival is the second most important holiday in the Chinese culture. It is always celebrated on August 15th in the Chinese calendar and in September or early October in the western calendar. The holiday celebration includes brightly lit lanterns, mooncakes, moon stories, and families being together. Families go to public places/parks to stroll around and admire the colourful lanterns around them. They give thanks and pray for good health, prosperity, and success of family members to the full moon.
Celebrate MidAutumn Festival with all your friends and family!
