Events Description

Edmonton’s own 28-piece, British-style brass band, under the leadership of guest conductor Dr. Angela Schroeder, is delighted to join with our special guests – the Bethel Lutheran Choir (Director: Normay Wiebe) – to celebrate the Christmas season with a festive selection of brass and choral delights. Band items include: An English Christmas (a medley of popular carols by Sparke), The Shining Star (a sparkling march by Graham), In The Christmas Mood (a big band arrangement by Hill), Let It Snow (Styne/Fernie), Mary’s Boy Child (a Carribean-style groove; Hairston/Sparke).

Band members featured as soloists include: David Wylie (E-flat bass) and Suzanne Langor, Jane de Caen and Carol Thurgood (horns) in Here Comes Santa Claus (Haldeman/Freeh) and Daniel Skepple (cornet) in Huron Carol (arr. Norbury). Selections by Bethel Luthern Choir include: Sing We Now of Christmas (Cottrell), Glory Hallelujah (Duren), and Messiah (Pardo, Battistelli & Reed).

As usual, there will be an opportunity for the audience to participate by singing along on a couple of Christmas favorites, including joining the band and choir in Handel’s spectacular Hallelujah Chorus.
