At home in both the classical and flamenco worlds, Misael Barraza Diaz is one of the most outstanding young Mexican guitarists. A graduate of the Master Guitarra Alicante program in Spain, he holds a second master’s degree from the University of Arizona, where he is currently pursuing a Doctorate of Musical Arts. Barraza is the winner of many important guitar competitions, including the Montréal International Guitar Competition, the International Guitar Competition of Finland and the Concurso Nacional de Intérpretes de Guitarra Clásica, the foremost competition in Mexico. He has appeared in concert in the USA, Mexico, Canada and Europe, and has twice been awarded the David Russell Bach Prize, a competition held in honour of David Russell and dedicated to the music of J. S. Bach. At his Edmonton concert Misael Barraza will perform music from both the classical and flamenco traditions.
