Peter Robertson Gallery presents River Rising, an exhibition from September 16 – October 16, 2021 by Canadian artist Steve Driscoll showcasing new works that use modern day photo technology to capture landscape from different perspective
On view is a video installation and new series of paintings that is the result of Driscoll attaching a GoPro to a flotation device and sending it down rushing rapids with no control of what the lens captures. He uses screenshots from the video as source imagery for these large-scale paintings made using oil paints and urethane, an industrial material. Viewers have the chance to see the natural scenery from a different perspective and feel the allure of these turbulent waters as if they were swept away in the chaotic and swirling rapids.
