Events Description
Puccini’s Suor Angelica recounts the heart-wrenching tale of a young noblewoman forced to take the veil seven years prior, after bearing a child out of wedlock. One of the few operatic works written for an all-female cast, this one-act production takes place in a small Italian convent on an annual feast day celebrating the start of spring.
With soaring melodies and emotionally affecting lyrics, Suor Angelica’s tragic story explores the complicated issues of grief and motherhood.
Grand River Opera’s inaugural production is directed by Renee Salewski, conducted by Rachel Cleland. Soprano Jennifer Carter is Angelica and mezzo-soprano Laura Pudwell is the Principessa; they are joined by and a cast of talented local singers.
Presented with Susan Black at the piano, in Italian (with English translations provided).
