Events Description
Join us for Monarch Tagging Weekend for educational activities, presentations & releases of hundreds of tagged monarch butterflies.
Monarch butterflies have two distinctly different life expectancies, depending on what time of year they reach the adult stage.
Monarch butterflies that emerge from their chrysalis from June – early August live for 2-5 weeks, with the primary purpose of mating and laying eggs to build up the population.
Monarch butterflies that emerge from their chrysalis as summer comes to a close (late August – early September) know that they need to find a place to overwinter. This is the “super generation,” and they live 7-8 months in order to make the epic migration to Mexico.
