Events Description
The Latin American Film Festival (LAFF) showcases features, documentaries, and short films from south of the Rio Grande. Presented by the Canadian Film Institute (CFI), the event features only contemporary Ottawa premieres, gleaned from the screens of such festivals as Cannes, Berlin, Toronto, and Chicago to celebrate the rich and diverse cultures of Latin America.
The festival will feature an extraordinary selection of film productions from 17 countries: Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Cuba, Dominican Republic, Ecuador, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Mexico, Panama, Paraguay, Peru and Uruguay.
Attendees will enjoy, free of charge, a diverse variety of genres, including drama, fiction, thriller, and documentary, among others. All films, produced from 2016 to 2023, will be screened with English subtitles. Many of the featured films have already gained international and national recognition, being nominated for prestigious film festivals or receiving awards for their outstanding achievements.
In addition, the festival will launch the screening of a film produced in Canada by the Ecuadorian-Canadian filmmaker, Lisetty Sandoval.
