Events Description

We’re either going to glow it up or blow it up!

The one-hour chemistry magic show will start at dusk (approximately 8:45 p.m.). This free one-hour show features fun targeted at the whole family with explosions, a look at the inner workings of fireworks, spontaneous combustions and things that glow in the dark. The show is appropriate and fun for everyone ages 6 and up. Please be aware that there will be loud noises that may scare some small children.

Our Chemistry Magic Show will be part of both Science Rendezvous, a national day of celebration of science in Canada and activities to inspire young people to be enthusiastic about science, and Science Odyssey, ten-day Canada-wide celebration of science, technology, engineering and mathematics.
Hands-on Activities

There will be hands-on activities before the show starting at 7:00. You can make ice cream with liquid nitrogen (and yes, of course you can eat it!), encounter interesting smells (from the pleasant aromas of spices to the not so nice aromas of sweaty feet, and everything in between), learn about fluorescence and phosphorescence, discover the secret to making great bubbles, see some of the demonstrations up close, and much more.

Who is it for?

All ages – Family

The show is appropriate and fun for everyone ages 6 and up. Please be aware that there will be loud noises that may scare some small children.

Guests are welcome to bring blankets or lawn chairs to sit on. Guests with lawn chairs will be seated behind those guests without chairs so that everyone can see the show.

Instead of charging admission for this event, we will be accepting donations of cash and non-perishable food for the Ottawa Food Bank. (suggested donation is $3 or 1 or 2 food items per person).
