Robotics Square (ages 9-12)

This interactive workshop begins with a demonstration of different types of robots including one of the most advanced humanoid robots in the world and the only one in Ottawa (Aldeberan’s NAO ROBOT)! Kids will get exposure to robotic machines and related concepts such as robotic movements, touch, sound, light and infrared sensors, motors, gears, gyroscopes and actuators to get them excited about the field of robotics.
An interactive hands-on activity uses the Lego Mindstorm NXT 2.0 robotics platform to design and build an obstacle-avoiding car, with computer software to plan, test and modify sequences of instruction to guide the car. Kids are introduced to concepts in engineering and robotic movement, kinematics, and experience working with motors, gears and various types of sensors.
All necessary materials and equipment will be provided and no robotics experience is required.
