Skate the Lake first hosted in 2004 and has brought skaters and spectators from around the world to the small village of Portland.

We build 1km & 2.5km ovals on Big Rideau Lake and host speed skating races of varying distances to appeal to amateur & professional skaters, young & young at heart.

Saturday February 18
7:30 a.m. – registration trailer open
8:30 a.m. – opening ceremony – national anthem, cutting of the ice

9 a.m. – 10K (registration closes at 8:30 a.m.)
10:30 a.m. – 25K (registration closes at 10 a.m.)
1 p.m. – kids 5K (12 years and under – registration closes at 12:30 p.m. – helmets must be worn)
2 p.m. – 5x1K relay (registration closes at 1:30 p.m. – 5 skaters per team)

Public skating with music and light show by DJ Johnny 5 after last race is finished

6 p.m. – fireworks
Note: breakfast between 8 a.m. and 11 a.m. at the Portland United Church
Sunday February 19

7:30 a.m. – registration trailer open

9 a.m. – 5K (registration closes at 8:30 a.m.)

10 a.m. – 50K (registration closes at 9:30 a.m.)
