DeLee will share the techniques she uses when painting outdoors and various approaches to capture scenes in their natural light. The fundamental principles of painting, including how to create compelling compositions, value patterns, colour harmony and brushwork, will be discussed. She will also discuss the benefits of using a limited palette for outdoor work. Demos, conducted in oil, short lectures and one-on-one time with the instructor, will reinforce these concepts.
This workshop is suitable for all media and all levels, from novice to advanced. Novice students are advised to sign up for the two day session, while advanced students may wish to sign up for only Sunday’s class.
ABOUT THE INSTRUCTOR
DeLee Grant participated in her first plein air workshop in 2007 at the world-renowned Emma Lake Kenderdine Campus, where she discovered her passion for painting en plein air (in the open air). It was a natural merger between her love for painting and the great outdoors. She continued to hone her skills by training with internationally acclaimed artists in France, Italy, Canada and the USA. She has travelled extensively and painted plein air landscapes in North America and Europe. Her pursuit of excellence is being rewarded. In 2016, she received an Award of Merit at the Escalante Canyons Art Festival (Utah), where she competed with artists from all over the US and some as far away as England. In 2019, she received the Award of Excellence at the Escalante Canyons Art Festival (Utah). She is currently represented by the LOBBY GALLERY (Regina Performing Arts Centre, Regina, SK). As well she is a member of the Brushworks Art Guild, Art Gallery of Regina, CARFAC, and is a juried member of the Saskatchewan Craft Council.
