Shannon Litzenberger is a contemporary dancer, choreographer and director based in Toronto. She creates imaginative performance experiences at the intersection of art and community, inspired by her rural Saskatchewan roots.
Drawing from poet Lorna Crozier’s collection of short lyrical essays The Book of Marvels: A Compendium of Everyday Things, this project invites audiences to reconsider the stuff of everyday life. Set in Remai Modern’s functional and in-between spaces, Litzenberger has choreographed a series of poetic encounters where quotidian objects such as a mop, a doorknob, and even air and darkness, become powerful metaphors.
Exploring movement, sound and poetry, Litzenberger—with dancers Ceinwen Gobert, Lindsay Harpham, Michell Larsen and Kyle Syverson—will develop this work in the museum over a two-week period, with public performances on Friday, August 13 and Friday, August 20 from 5-7 PM.
This series is free to attend.
