Events Description

Saskatchewan’s Family Day holiday weekend is a great time to give ice fishing a try with no licence required.

Experience the beauty of Saskatchewan lakes this winter during the province’s annual winter free fishing weekend, from February 19-21, 2022.

Saskatchewan residents and visitors may fish any waterbody that has an open sport fishing season without buying a fishing licence. All other regulations remain in effect, including possession limits and reduced limits on some lakes and rivers. Free fishing weekend does not apply in national parks, and anyone planning to take fish out of the province must buy a licence.

The Ministry of Environment reminds anglers to always put safety first when going out on the ice. Use caution and common sense, including testing ice thickness before travelling on it. A minimum of 10 cm of good ice is required for walking and 30 cm for light vehicle travel.

For more information about fishing in Saskatchewan, check the ministry’s Anglers’ Guide, available wherever fishing licences are sold, or online at saskatchewan.ca/fishing.
