Events Description

Each spring, Saskatchewan’s provincial bird, the Sharp-tailed Grouse performs an elaborate mating dance at a lek.

The Saskatoon Nature Society plans a special field trip on a weekend morning or evening in late March or early April to a site within a 1-hour driving time of Saskatoon where the display may be viewed from a public road. Carpools will be arranged amongst registered participants with gas costs to be shared. The date and time and location of the event will be emailed to registered participants. If the weather forecast is unsuitable, registered participants will receive an email advising them of any revised date and time.

Participation in this trip is restricted to members of the Saskatoon Nature Society who have paid their 2019 membership fees. Non-members may pay their membership ($20 single; $30 family) at our March 21 meeting or by following instructions on our https://saskatoonnature.org website.

Once you have paid your 2019 membership, you should email trips@saskatoonnature.org indicating that you wish to participate. List the full names of the participants and their contact phone number and email address. Please describe the number of available seats in your vehicle for carpooling purposes. Put Sharp-tailed Dance trip in the subject area of your email.

Participants who would like to attend this trip are requested to attend the March 21 general meeting of the Saskatoon Nature Society to be held at 7:30 pm in Room 1130, Health Sciences building, U of S campus. Following this meeting, Stan Shadick will meet with interested members to plan logistical details for the Sharp-tailed Grouse trip. Non-members may pay their 2019 membership fees at the table in the foyer before this meeting starts or via the saskatoonnature.org website.
