Events Description

This all-encompassing Decades: The Toronto Sound of the ‘60’s, ‘70s and ‘80s concert showcase will include special presentations for six iconic songs being inducted the Canadian Songwriters Hall of Fame, and the music that emerged out of Toronto during three defining decades. The showcase underscores the songwriting process of each artist across multiple genres to reflect the diverse sounds of Toronto from hip hop to psychedelic pop, new wave and soul.

The songs that will be celebrated include, from the ‘60s: Soul classic “Opportunity” (Mandala), and Groovy hit “I Would Be the One” (Kensington Market); ‘70s rock ballad “(Make Me Do) Anything You Want” (A Foot in Coldwater) and sci-fi inspired hit “Calling Occupants of Interplanetary Craft” (Klaatu); and the ‘80’s equality anthem “Rise Up” (Parachute Club) and 30th anniversary of “Let Your Backbone Slide” performed by Maestro Fresh Wes.

The history-making evening will see Maestro Fresh Wes accepting the song induction for the first rap song to be inducted to the Canadian Songwriters Hall of Fame; as well as the 35th anniversary special release of “Rise Up” performed by Lorraine Segato (Parachute Club) in its original track, a country rendition and pop rendition. Performances by Alex Machin (A Foot in Coldwater), George Olliver (Mandala), Keith Mckie (Kensington Market) will also hit the stage.

Special guests joining the exceptional concert include music icon Tom Cochrane, musician and Indigenous artist Tom Wilson, and JUNO-winning R&B songstress Jully Black.
