National youth-education charity, Ripple Foundation, has announced the extension of its free, coveted virtual ‘Write It Workshops’ until December 2020, to inspire children across Canada to continue their writing journeys.
Geared towards those in grades 4-8, each 60-minute interactive session focuses on various aspects of story-writing, including brainstorming ideas, plot development and character creation.
The program — designed by Certified Ontario Teachers, approved by Toronto Public Library and led by volunteers who have teaching experience and are avid readers and writers — has already seen over 350 aspiring young authors participate in the program since launching virtually in April in response to COVID-19.
Now, the schedule has been extended and three workshops will be hosted each month between September – December.
“Ripple Foundation’s sole purpose is to inspire children to put pen to paper, use their imaginations to dream big and write better,” said Founder of Ripple Foundation, Ivy Wong.
“Pivoting from in-person sessions to online has been something we never thought we’d have to do, but backed by our amazing volunteers and brilliant engagement from participants, the virtual Write It Workshops have become a roaring success! So, we are back by popular demand until the end of 2020!”
The creative writing workshops provide a foundation for young authors to participate in Ripple Foundation’s annual ‘Kids Write 4 Kids’ writing contest, which contestants can enter as of October 1st, 2020. The winner of the national competition will see their work published in print and ebook format, with proceeds from book sales donated to a charity of their choice.
