Spiritus Ensemble Virtual Concert

Brio and delight from Bach and Durante!

There is something about the energy, colour, and sheer joy of Baroque music that says ‘Christmas’ like no other. Spiritus Ensemble has recorded two Baroque classics for your enjoyment during the holiday season.

Francesco Durante composed his brief, buoyant Magnificat in B-flat sometime between 1740 and 1760. Like many Italian settings of this period, Durante’s Magnificat is sunny, confident, and festive.

Bach wrote cantata 133, Ich freue mich in dir, for the Third Day of Christmas. The trumpets and drums of Christmas Day are gone, but the celebration continues on a smaller scale.
