Events Description

The YPT Drama School has a fantastic new class, Tell Me That Story Again, where students will learn about the Indigenous tradition of oral storytelling and create theatre that is personal and powerful. Weekly Saturday classes (1PM-2:30PM) will be held in Downtown Toronto for Grades 5-8 throughout the Fall, Winter & Spring.

YPT Artist Educators Lindy Kinoshameg, from Wikwemikoong Unceded First Nation, and Leslie McCue, from Curve Lake First Nation, will facilitate this storytelling class that encompasses respect, leadership and teamwork. Indigenous storytelling is deeply rooted in our connection with Mother Earth, the water, the plants and animals. Students will be invited to explore that connection through the telling of their own stories. In the Fall and Winter terms, students will be introduced to the Indigenous tradition of oral storytelling, including its history, and learn how art, movement and dance help weave the tales told. Students will develop confidence, active listening skills, and their imagination. The Spring term will culminate in a storytelling performance created and performed by the students.
