Events Description

Learn about the pre-war history of 8000 Japanese-Canadians and 400 businesses along Powell Street, and the Internment of Japanese-Canadians.

VJLS is proud to present the new Historic Powell Street Walking Tours that are starting this August. Learn about the hidden history of the thriving Japanese-Canadian historic neighbourhood community prior to World War II, the strength displayed by Japanese Canadians during internment, and the resilient Downtown Eastside community of today.

To ensure the safety of all participants, we will be practicing social distancing and limiting registration to a maximum of 8 people. Tours will happen every Saturday and Thursday throughout August and begin in front of the VJLS Heritage Wing at 475 Alexander Street, Vancouver, BC.

If you have any questions or concerns, feel free to contact Irene Zhang at communityprogramming@vjls-jh.com.

Be sure to follow our social media pages for more information and updates on VJLS!
