Bah Humbug! – an Eastside Christmas Carol celebrating the spirit and humanity of Charles Dickens and the Downtown East Side community. Join us for the 10th annual and final season of this beloved holiday classic!
Juno Award winner Jim Byrnes leads this inspiring musical ensemble which reveals Vancouver’s pressing social issues showcased in a riveting rendition.
Charles Dickens’ A Christmas Carol is beautifully retold in this contemporary adaptation set within Vancouver’s Downtown East Side. On a dark winter’s night, Scrooge preys upon his desperate clientele as a heartless pawnshop operator/hotel landlord who displaces people through renovictions.
This haunting yet humourous musical, directed by Michael Boucher, features an impressive cast led by Jim Byrnes, Tom Pickett, Kevin McNulty, Sam Bob, Savannah Walling plus the return of Margo Kane. The St. James Music Academy Youth Choir adds their rich voices to this unique adaptation. We are also pleased to welcome back the Governor General’s Caring Canadian Award recipient Stephen Lytton to the production, alongside three new cast members and a musician.
Renowned muralist Richard Tetrault’s iconic images of back alleys, ravens and Vancouver’s portside provide a compelling backdrop to this East Side adaptation. Plus, blues, gospel and industrial rock genres are interspersed with traditional seasonal favourites led by musical director Bill Costin.
