The European Union Delegation to Canada, the European Union National Institutes for Culture (EUNIC) and the diplomatic missions of EU Member States, in collaboration with the Canadian Film Institute and the Winnipeg Cinematheque are pleased to present the first edition in Winnipeg of the European Union Short Film Festival featuring short films – animated, experimental, and dramatic as follows below:
These shorts deal, in one fashion or another, with life’s constant changes, whether you’re young, old, or in between.
RUNNING LIGHTS, Lithuania, 2017, 11 minutes, directed by Ged Sia
The cycles of life and death are always bound together in this vivid animated meditation on life, death, and rebirth.
LATE AFTERNOON, Ireland 2017, 9 minutes, directed by Louise Bagnall
A mother and daughter’s relationship stretches across time.

DAMN GIRL, Denmark, 2012, 13 minutes, directed by Kira Richards Hansen
The coming of age story about, Alex, a 12-year old tomboy. Hanging out with a group of only boys, she is soon confronted with her own body’s changes.!
CATHERINE, Belgium, 2016, 11 minutes, directed by Britt Raes
As she gets older, Catherine’s strange relationship with her pets takes her life in unexpected directions.
AWAKER, Czech Republic, 2014, 10 minutes, directed by Filip Diviak
Set in a cold Nordic country in the early 19th century, this animation tells the tale of an old man who works as an awaker, waking people up. His life is always the same — until one day he gets a shiny old bell.
FLIM FLAM, Croatia, 2018, 8 minutes, directed by Marco Belic This is a story about the encounter between two individuals inside an imaginary world. One longs for company, and is soon rewarded with the arrival of a stranger.
YAWTH, Greece 2018, 10 mins, directed by Lida Vartzioti, Dmitris Tsakaleas
A witty satire on love and relationships in the age of the ubiquitous cell phone.
