Events Description
A Heavy Bell Production
Poetry, music and dance in one immersive experience
Music by Heavy Bell (Tom Keenan & Matt Peters), adapted from the book By Grand Central Station I Sat Down and Wept by Elizabeth Smart
World Premiere
Eight musicians and two dancers bring to life a story of love, seen through one woman’s experience and poetry. With movements that are at times literal and at others abstract, the words of Elizabeth Smart resonate with sensuality. One of Canada’s most-revered female poets, Smart’s seminal work inspired local Winnipeg band Heavy Bell to adapt the poems into a song cycle. Now those songs have been crafted into a dance and theatre performance of eloquence and beauty.
Update from the Organiser:
PTE regretfully announces that, as of March 16, the remaining performances of BY GRAND CENTRAL STATION have been cancelled, as well as all performances of THE GINGERBREAD GIRL, due to concerns surrounding the spread of COVID-19. Although the audience has been limited to under 250, and there has been no official word that smaller public gatherings should be cancelled, it has become clear that we need to be proactive in helping to slow the spread of the virus.
We know that for many of our patrons, the ability to go out and experience theatre is something that is a welcome distraction during a time of uncertainty and emotional stress. But we know that our supporters will understand this move, and we’re happy to join the world-wide efforts to “flatten the curve”.
