- The Big Bad Wolf – Saturday, August 7
Recent wolf sightings on Hecla have triggered excitement and fear amongst some visitors. Yet the wolf was once a greatly respected animal. Only in recent history has the wolf become maligned. This fear has particularly been engrained in children through stories and fables. It is time for redemption as the wolf is a complex social animal that plays an important role in our great web of life. Try your hand at an eerie wolf howl and discover one of the sources of our fear. - Sustenance and Spirituality – Saturday, August 14
During the COVID-19 pandemic, more people than ever began gardening. Gardening centres were sold out and community gardens became more common throughout the country. Is there something innately special about plants and our spirit? Explore the connection between plants and the human spirit. Discover plants both wild and introduced critical to past residents of Hecla. - Wildlife Smart – Saturday, August 21
Learn about bears and other wildlife; more importantly learn how to be wildlife smart while you’re staying in bear country. Park Patrol Officers will be on hand to discuss how problem bears are managed. - Illuminating Lighthouses – Saturday, August 28
The little lighthouse of Hecla may be the iconic symbol of the Park but the role it played was far from symbolic. Watercrafts have been integral to Lake Winnipeg since the arrival of humans carrying both supplies and people. The Lighthouses of Hecla opened up boat transportation to unprecedented levels serving not only as navigation aids but also as lifesavers.
