Events Description

The Black Hole Theatre Company is excited to invite you to the last mainstage of our season, The Persecution and Assassination of Jean-Paul Marat as Performed by the Inmates of the Asylum of Charenton Under the Direction of the Marquis de Sade, (otherwise known as Marat/Sade) by Peter Weiss.

Welcome to Charenton Asylum, France 1808; the Marquis de Sade, an incarcerated eccentric nobleman, has written and is staging a dramatization of the assassination of radical political writer Jean-Paul Marat at the hands of young rebel Charlotte Corday, with the patients of the asylum performing all the roles. Much to the chagrin of the aristocratic audience, Sade’s supposed drama therapy performance devolves into anarchy, as rebellion and madness threaten to bring the whole institute crumbling down.

Involving over 40 cast members and musicians, be sure to join us for the mayhem and melody, March 21 to 31, as this epic tale of the French Revolution unfolds.
