Events Description

Join us every Sunday at 7:00 PM from September 27 – October 25 for an intimate live electronic music concert.
Prairie Wires has partnered with the Brandon Public Library to present Quiet Concerts. Intended as a unique in person concert event inviting the audience to bring their own headphones to the Library to relax and enjoy an afternoon of experimental electronic music performance. Covid-19 has created an opportunity for us to bring this unique concert experience to you wherever you are.
Quiet Concerts will livestream five performances on Facebook Live, YouTube Live and Twitch beginning Sunday, September 27.
We are working hard to configure the best possible audio quality for this sonic experience and recommend high quality headphones or speakers to listen on the comfort of your own home.

Mutable Body (Winnipeg, MB)
Mutable Body constructs hyper-real soundscapes using spectral analysis, various forms of synthesis, computer assisted composition techniques, and a feverish thirst for chaos. These otherworldly planes exist as bridges between the realms of physical acoustic perception and the ephemeral world of the digital. Her performance and composition practice is informed by years of improvisational electronic work in the studio, composition studies at the University of Manitoba, electroacoustic/sound art festival shows, a deep connection to DIY community spaces, and creative expression as a means of Queer survival. Mutable Body lives and dreams on Treaty 1 territory in Winnipeg, Manitoba.
Sunday, October 4, 7:00pm
Shotgun Jimmie (Brandon, MB)
Shotgun Jimmie is a much loved Canadian indie-rock troubadour known for his catchy power pop and endearing charm. His blistering one-man band live show incorporates fuzzed out guitars, a modified drum kit, harmonica, and a magic bag of tricks. Jimmie is a road-tested indie-rock veteran, having toured North America and Europe extensively on his own and with seminal Canadian bands like the Constantines, Julie Doiron, Ladyhawk, and Attack in Black. A prolific collaborator, his backing bands have included members of Feist, City & Colour and Do Make Say Think, he appeared on John K. Samson’s Provincial, touring North America and Europe as lead guitarist and opening act.
Sunday, October 11, 7:00pm
Jeff Smith (Brandon, MB)
Jeff Smith is a Brandon Manitoba based musician and music therapist with an interest in modal experimentation and free improvisation. Jeff’s primary instrument is guitar and he is as comfortable performing with jazz combos and rock bands alike including the Southern Time rock opera, East Vancouver community band (global music), and conducts music therapy in various locations on unceded Coast Salish territories.
Sunday, October 18, 7:00pm
Yoyu (Winnipeg, MB)
Yoyu is a Canadian Prairie ambient musician, drawing on the themes of open space, deep listening and nature. Yoyu’s performances are wonderfully intuitive, using live capture, asynchronous looping techniques, sound decay, field recordings, and generations of personal sound programming. The simplest of waveforms evolve into a wall of sound through resampling and customized granular synthesis tools. This is a modern electronic musician’s sound space. With sound, tiny (and not so tiny) vibrations alter consciousness.
Sunday, October 25, 7:00pm
This event is financially supported by the Brandon Neighbourhood Renewal Corporation and the Manitoba Arts Council.
