Events Description
Celebrate Science Literacy Week at the Marsh!
Learn more about the Motus Wildlife Tracking System, a coordinated hemispheric tracking system for migratory flying animals with guest speaker Saeedeh Bani Assadi.
This new automated, radio-telemetry system provides the opportunity to investigate the migration and behaviour of small songbirds when other types of direct-tracking archival tags such as GPS or Geolocator units would be logistically difficult.
The receiver at Oak Hammock Marsh is one of six installed in southern Manitoba by the Avian Behaviour and Conservation Laboratory at the University of Manitoba. These receivers play an important role in monitoring the movements of Purple Martins, a species at risk nesting at Oak Hammock Marsh.
