About six per cent of the paid workforce in New Brunswick are minimum wage earners and they will see a slight increase in their pay as the New Brunswick government is increasing the minimum wage by 5 cents per hour on April 1, 2021.
The pay will increase to $11.75 per hour from the current rate of $11.70 per hour. The increase comes as the New Brunswick consumer price index grew by 0.22 per cent in 2020.
The minimum wage rate in the province is indexed to New Brunswick’s consumer price index, rounded to the nearest five cents.
There are currently about 20,000 minimum wage earners in New Brunswick.
