Quebec to Require All Elementary Students in Red Zones to Wear Masks in Classrooms

Quebec is making masks compulsory for students in elementary school in regions hardest hit by COVID-19.

The Health Department says students in Grades one to six will be forced to wear pediatric procedural masks at all times inside classrooms in Quebec’s red pandemic-alert zones

The new health orders comes into effect March 8, when students return from March break.

Only students in Grades five and six were previously required to wear masks inside classrooms.

Quebec’s red zones include the greater Montreal and Quebec City regions.

Health officials say the new health order won’t apply to certain students with special needs or when children are outside playing.
