Edmonton’s restaurant scene became a lot bigger this summer.

July and August were months filled with grand openings of all kinds in Edmonton. If you need a new place to eat, enjoy cocktails, or a new place to meet for coffee, you have several options.
This past summer, there were openings for sushi bars, breweries and cocktail bars, family restaurants, takeout spots, and so much more.
And it doesn’t stop with the end of summer. There are a few notable openings taking place this September, too.
Dolly’s Cocktail Bar

Sabor de Los Andes
This Latin American food truck celebrated their storefront grand opening back in late April. And as soon as the weather turned warm, they opened with an adorable patio, too. Sabor de Los Andes serve authentic Latin food from this now-open restaurant in Edmonton, as well as their classic truck which regularly pops up at local markets. Tasty House Noodle
Old Strathcona was blessed at the start of summer with the addition of an excellent new noodle house. Tasty House Noodle offers a blend of Japanese and Chinese cuisine with a specialization in noodle bowls. Try out a bowl of Japanese Ramen or Chinese chow mein and pulled noodles.
Open for dine-in, take-out, or delivery. Tasty Noodle House also serves up rice dishes and a variety of appetizers.

Sushi Café Madang
Make enough time to get to Sushi Café Madang to enjoy their patio. The restaurant, a block north of Whyte, has a backyard-style patio, giving you a perfect casual place to enjoy Madang’s five-star sushi. They’re open earlier, too, with a coffee and brunch menu.

Lloyd’s Patty Distro
And no, Distro is not a typo! Lloyd’s Patty Distro started in Calgary by selling these now famous and freshly made Jamaican patties. And now, the Edmonton Distro (distribution centre) offer the same great patties. The new Lloyd’s location is a short walk north of McEwan University where you can dine in the small café or take frozen patties to make at home.

Arbour
The new Arbour restaurant opened in Edmonton in early summer. The menu is a showcase of the chef’s global inspirations and includes a variety of gourmet treats. These plates are great for sharing and include a variety of pizzas. The beverage menu includes carefully crafted cocktails of all kinds, and local beers/ciders.

Chatkhara By Krishna
Chatkara, Edmonton’s new and self-proclaimed “streatery” is a 100% vegetarian restaurant. They’re conveniently open seven days a week, too! The dishes are all inspired by authentic Indian food with additional Indo-Chinese options. Chatkara by Krishna’s menu also includes desserts, lunch specials, hot drinks, and sides.

Tansen Izakaya
Tansen Izakaya celebrated their soft opening earlier this summer to great success. The Japanese restaurant on Whyte Avenue offer an array of sushi and sashimi, appetizers and rice, oshi sushi, yakitori, and ramen. There are tons of items to try, but you can always come back for more authentic sushi.

Stingray
The Stingray Bar & Eatery is the newest addition to the Century Hospitality Group. The new Crestwood restaurant (central Edmonton), invite you to ride the waves through their coastal Japanese-inspired menu. This includes options for the “lil’ samurais” (kids’ menu), and a large assortment of small and large plates for those 12 and older. Stingray offers sashimi, sushi, bento, kushiyaki, soups, salads, and desserts.

Butter Chicken & More
Visit Butter Chicken & More in central Edmonton for their massive and new menu of Indian food. The head chef and founder, Deependra Singh, focuses on creating traditional Indian cuisine with his own creative twists. The restaurant and Deependra’s menu are accommodating, too. They are happy to accommodate gluten allergies (just let them know!) and provide a full vegan menu.

Pharaoh’s Restaurant
Pharaoh’s Restaurant is the newest place in Edmonton for authentic Egyptian cuisine. They celebrated their grand opening on August 19th, so they may be one of the newest eateries in Edmonton overall. They claim to be the first-ever halal Egyptian restaurant in Edmonton and will make your visit worth it through the incredibly cozy dining room atmosphere. So far, the recommendations are all about the Hawawshii!

Hanan’s Kitchen
Hanan’s Kitchen in downtown Edmonton are a new takeout spot with a wide variety of menu options. The snacks and appetizers include classic pub snacks, as well as a few Mediterranean treats. Plus, Hanan’s offer delicious donair and shawarma. On the lighter side, they also offer soup, falafel, and Fattoush.

El Jardin
El Jardin opened this past July in downtown Edmonton’s Mercer building. The menu includes gourmet dishes inspired by Latin flavours and cuisine. Some example dishes include ceviche, tostadas, tacos, sandwiches, and salads. Stop in for a fill-up on Latin food, colourful craft cocktails, and seemingly endless wine options.

Moonga Nori
Moonga Nori, a new and great place for sushi on Whyte, is also Edmonton’s only hand maki bar. These hand rolls feature fine cuts of seafood and meats like wagyu beef, or blue fin tuna. Some dishes are even served smoked. Moonga Nori is excellent for group outings, date nights, and anytime you want to share dishes across the table.

Carne Asada Mexican Taqueria
Carne Asada opened in the neighbourhood in late June this past summer. Carne Asada Mexican Taqueria, where “every day is taco Tuesday,” with their simple, authentic, and delicious taco menu. Plus, Carne Asada offering catering!

Restaurants with a New Location in Edmonton
Japonais Bistro
This Jasper Avenue favourite recently brought their modern Japanese cuisine south to the Windermere neighbourhood. Japonais Bistro opened this second location last June to the delight of many south-side Edmontonians. Japonais Bistro’s menu contains shareable or smaller plates, rolls, sashimi, nigiri, soups, and desserts.

Baekjeong Korean BBQ House
Baekjeong celebrated the grand opening of their second Edmonton location this summer. Enjoy their authentic Korean barbecue dishes from the original southside location, or their new Mayfield Common restaurant (visit them in Calgary, too!). They offer a variety of individual entrees like bibimbap, or soups and stews.

Manual Labour Beer Co.
Manual Labour Beer Co. celebrated their taproom’s grand opening in Sherwood Park this past spring. Stop in to try the brews, for a brewery tour, and some local Sherwood Park favourites for food. While you sip beers in the taproom, you’ll have access to the menus for Nitza’s Pizza, or That BBQ Place. And you are free to order whatever you like from anywhere else nearby.

La Prosciutteria
La Prosciutteria plan to open this coming September 9th in downtown Edmonton. The menu sneak-peaks on Instagram display beautiful and delicious-looking charcuterie, a Tuscan vibe, and plenty more Italian-inspired food.

Find the new Leonardo’s Coffee and Sandwich House in the historic John Lang building. The shop promises freshly made sandwiches, specialty coffees and drinks, and lunch foods. The interior atmosphere matches the age and history of the building.
