Canada landed 14 restaurants on the North America’s 50 Best Restaurants 2026 list, with Calgary’s Eight making the biggest Canadian splash by debuting at No. 2 and taking the Highest New Entry Award.

The list, announced May 28 at the Sheraton New Orleans Hotel, named Smyth in Chicago as The Best Restaurant in North America. Led by John Shields and Karen Urie Shields, Smyth moved up from No. 4 on the 2025 list to claim the top spot this year.
For Canadian diners, though, the headline is hard to miss: three Canadian restaurants placed in the top five. Eight in Calgary ranked No. 2 and was named The Best Restaurant in West Canada. Restaurant Pearl Morissette in Lincoln, Ont., came in at No. 3 and received The Best Restaurant in Central Canada title. Montreal’s Mon Lapin followed at No. 5 and was named The Best Restaurant in East Canada.
Toronto also had a strong presence near the top. Quetzal placed No. 8, while Edulis entered the list at No. 25 and Mhel ranked No. 28. Quebec City’s Tanière3 reached No. 9, giving Canada four restaurants in the top 10.
The full Canadian group included Le Violon in Montreal at No. 15, Published on Main in Vancouver at No. 17, Beba in Verdun at No. 27, Sabayon in Montreal at No. 34, AnnaLena in Vancouver at No. 35, Wild Blue in Whistler at No. 47, and The Pine in Creemore, Ont., at No. 48.
Canada also appeared in the awards outside the main ranking. Restaurant Pearl Morissette received the Art of Hospitality Award 2026. Eight’s No. 2 debut was recognized as a standout new entry, placing Calgary among the six new cities represented on the list this year.
Overall, the 2026 ranking included restaurants from 20 cities, with 36 from the United States and 14 from Canada. The list was compiled by a 300-member academy of regional restaurant industry experts.
