The event, taking place at St. Elias Banquet Hall from 4:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m., aims to bring together over 500 people for a night of festivities that highlight the cultural significance of the festival.

The drone show, scheduled for 8:30 p.m., will feature visuals inspired by Indian culture to evoke the traditional feel of fireworks in a safer, modern format. Organizers hope the display will foster a sense of community and celebration for those who cannot use fireworks due to residential bans.

Capital Diwali Mela will offer a variety of activities, including cultural performances, Indian cuisine from a Toronto-based restaurant, and family-friendly activities. Children can enjoy safe, sparkler-like crackers, while other entertainment includes a DJ, games, and a dance floor. Raffle prizes and a selection of vendors selling Diwali-related items will add to the festive atmosphere.

More than 500 attendees are anticipated for the event, which seeks to bring the spirit of India to Ottawa.

As a gesture of community support, Food Basics is providing up to 75 complimentary tickets for those interested in joining the festivities. General admission costs $81.21, with discounted rates for children and seniors. Free tickets can be obtained using the code ‘Foodbasics.’
