Canada is preparing for a Eurovision first, and if you are a Canadian artist who has dreamed about stepping onto that famously elaborate stage, CBC/Radio-Canada wants to hear from you.
The broadcaster is launching a national search for the performer who will represent Canada at the Eurovision Song Contest in 2027. Rather than choosing a song first, CBC/Radio-Canada will select the artist before developing the entry.
Who Can Apply:
You need to be a Canadian citizen or permanent resident and at least 18 years old by May 1, 2027. CBC/Radio-Canada is looking for an established performer who can handle large audiences, live television and the pressure that comes with international attention.
Vocals are a major part of the test. The lead singer must perform live without lip-syncing, pitch correction or Auto-Tune. Eurovision performances are limited to three minutes, with a lead vocalist and no more than five additional people on stage.
The eventual song will include both of Canada’s official languages and may incorporate other languages.
CBC/Radio-Canada says it wants an artist with “a lifelong dream to compete on the Eurovision Song Contest stage,” making personal enthusiasm for the competition part of the selection criteria.
How does CBC/Radio-Canada’s Eurovision selection process work?
Applications are open from August 31 at 9 a.m. ET until September 9 at 11:59 p.m. PT.
CBC/Radio-Canada will first create a shortlist, with finalists expected to be announced in the fall. You will then see those performers put to a digital public vote, which will be combined with votes from a music industry jury.
Canada’s first Eurovision representative is expected to be announced by late fall 2026.
The selected artist will also need to commit to an intensive rehearsal and international travel schedule, while working collaboratively with CBC/Radio-Canada throughout the process.
