The facility, located at 212 Glover Road, is part of a broader $400 million investment to enhance the company’s retail and distribution capabilities across the country. Once completed, the 483,285-square-foot building will be among Ontario’s five largest zero-carbon industrial sites.

Per the news release, the Hamilton CDC aligns with IKEA’s global sustainability goals, which include halving emissions by 2030, achieving net-zero emissions by 2050, and transitioning to 90% zero-emission home deliveries by 2028. The facility will seek Net Zero Carbon national certification LEED Gold certification and generate net-positive energy annually.

The Greater Toronto Area (GTA) will benefit from improved product availability and shorter delivery times as IKEA strengthens its fulfillment network. The location in Hamilton was chosen for its strategic transport accessibility and potential for future market growth.

The new CDC is designed to improve fulfillment efficiency, ensuring products remain readily available with shorter delivery times.

The facility will also feature a Collection Point where customers in the Greater Hamilton Area can pick up their online orders, though immediate takeaway of products and food will not be available.

The project is expected to generate thousands of direct and indirect jobs in warehousing, delivery, and home services.

The Hamilton CDC is expected to open in the summer of 2027.
